Learn How to Make Wreaths
Put a Bird House in Your Wreath?
We Don’t Want it to Look Brand Spanking New…
Are you like me when you’re making a wreath? Well, I’m talking about adding items to my wreath. I am very particular about what I add, and how it looks. By adding the wrong thing, it can literally ruin a wreath you spent valuable time designing.
So, in this week’s FREE video (link at the bottom of the post), we are distressing a birdhouse for our wreath. I would love it if I could just buy one that is the size I want that already looks distressed. Yes, they are out there if you want to order from a wholesale vendor. But, in a case like this, I only want ONE birdhouse and you can’t just order only one birdhouse from a vendor without having to meet their minimum order.
How to Make a Wreath with a Distressed Birdhouse
I know you would like to know how to make this birdhouse look so cute in your wreath, right? Just look at the picture below. Can you believe it is the same one? Yes, it certainly is!
So, I am going to show you how I make this brand new unfinished birdhouse look like the one that you see above in our wreath!
What am I doing here? Well, I’m painting! I’ll show you how — it’s easy! We want it to look like it has been outside for quite a while. Next…the FUN part! This is what I LOVE!
Can you guess what I am doing in this picture? I went outside to my garden and I pulled a couple of pieces of bark off my river birch trees. If you can’t find river birch trees, then use pine bark. You can actually lay it on top of itself making it look like real rustic shingles.
Here it is — my rustic birdhouse made from the brand new one pictured above. Notice I have also put some sheet moss here and there to add a little more to my distressed look.
But, you’ll learn all about this when you view my next FREE How to Make Wreath Tips by Nancy video that I filmed just for YOU!

Nancy, thank you for sharing your tips with all of us who love floral arranging. Never too old to learn new things. I was always taught to wrap my picks like you do. The teacher said that was a sign of a real pro. You definately are a real pro. Thanks again for all your help. Ann.
Oh, thanks Ann! I learned to do it the correct way, so I never stray from that. These little tips and tricks are what makes you have a wreath that can last for several years!
Smiles… Nancy
Loved the rustic birdhouse. I have done similar things to mine but have never put the bark on the top. I love that and will certainly use it from now on. I have used metal that I made it look rusty and that worked well too. Thanks for all the free videos and tips. I love your wild wreaths and it has certainly improved my wreath making to watch your videos.
You are so welcome. Isn’t the birdhouse fun? I have used metal too, but the bark is quick and easy.. lol
I love the rustic look it gives the birdhouse. You’re welcome, and thanks for the reply! Nancy
